Child safety standards

Kind Soup has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. This page sets out what we prohibit, how to report it, and what we do when it is reported.
What is prohibited
The following are banned outright, with no warning and no appeal:
- Child sexual abuse material, in any form, including drawn or generated imagery
- Sexualising a child in words, including describing a child in a sexual way
- Grooming, or any attempt to contact, befriend or arrange to meet a child through this service
- Trafficking, solicitation, or advertising a child for any purpose
- Sharing images of a child in a way that puts them at risk
Kind Soup is for adults
You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Kind Soup is not designed for children, is not directed at children, and has no features intended for them. Members write about the children they care for, which is ordinary and welcome; that is different from the conduct above, and moderators are expected to know the difference.
How to report it
In the app: open any post, reply or profile, choose Report, and select Something involving a child. That report is filed at urgent priority and sorts above every other report in the moderation queue.
By email: moderators@kindsoup.com. You do not need an account to report something to us this way.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number first. Kind Soup is not an emergency service and cannot summon help.
What we do about it
- Remove it. Content is taken down as soon as a moderator confirms it.
- End the account. Permanently, on the first offence.
- Preserve the evidence. We keep the material and the account records for law enforcement rather than deleting them outright, and we do not notify the person we are reporting.
- Report it. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and cooperate with law enforcement requests.
How we prevent it
We would rather describe this accurately than impressively. Kind Soup is a small service and does not run automated image hash matching. What it does have:
- Adults only, and no features that would attract or serve a child
- Closed circles that a caregiver moderator admits people to individually, rather than open rooms anyone can walk into
- No public profiles, no search indexing, and no way to browse members
- Private messages only between members who have not blocked each other, with the recipient able to close messages entirely
- A report route that reaches a human, at urgent priority, from every screen
If the service grows to a size where automated detection is appropriate, we will add it and say so here.
